Quick Trip: Charleston, South Carolina

If you've followed me on Instagram or known me for very long, you know that I frequent Charleston, South Carolina. It is literally one of my favorite places on Earth. There is so much to do and see (and eat 😉). It's beautiful really anytime of the year- even when its cold out! I love the old, historic, southern feel.

Beaches

One of my favorite beaches is Isle of Palms. There are a couple little shops and restaurants (and ice cream!) so it's perfect to spend a whole day on!

I'm also a big fan of Folly Beach! I like going to beaches that aren't always super crowded and touristy. Folly only has one hotel and the rest is residential so it's nice to layout and relax on without having a crazy amount of people around you. There is still food and ice cream and some surf shops to look around in so it's not totally isolated!

......Now for the good stuff 😂

Food

1. Taco Boy

Oh. My. Gosh. If you like Mexican food, you'll love this place. Hands down the best I've ever had. Plus it's like a block from the beach (the one on Folly). There are two of them- one downtown and the other on Folly. I usually get the nachos or fish tacos. I had to opt for the nachos this time 😂.

2. Jack's

This little joint is right in the heart of downtown Charleston. (On George St.) They have breakfast all day and it is SO good. They also have lunch stuff too! I usually get an omelette, but they have all sorts of breakfast stuff!

3. Caviar & Bananas

This little market/coffee shop is absolutely delicious! They have all kinds of yummy gourmet pastries and coffee, but they also have sandwiches, salads, sweets, and much more!

4. Fleet Landing
This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Charleston! It's downtown right on the harbor so it makes for a nice meal on the water as well. I've eaten here multiple times and had different things- some seafood, some not- and it's all delicious!

5. Hymans
Good seafood. Probably one of my top 5 seafood restaurants!

6. Henry's Rooftop
THE BEST SEAFOOD PASTA. Plus you can sit on the roof. It's literally the most amazing view!

7. The Watch Rooftop

8. Toast
Breakfast and Brunch!! SO good. We go everytime!

9. Virginia's on King

10. Watchdog

11. Poogan's Porch

Shopping

1. King Street

The best shopping/variety of stores in Charleston is definitely downtown on King St. There is literally everything you could think of. They have designer stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, & Kate Spade, but they also have other great stores like Anthropologie, J Crew, Victoria's Secret, etc.

2. Sassy Shortcake

This little store is located on King Street downtown. You'd totally miss it if you weren't looking for it but it's totally worth the find! It's a cute little boutique on the top level of one of the buildings and they usually have a mannequin sitting outside the alleyway where you can find the stairs for the shop!

 3. Kids on King

Oh my gosh!!! This store is adorable. If you loved smocked outfits and just a classic southern baby look, this shop is perfect! They have the cutest smocked items for literally anything you could think of!

4. Outlets

They also have a really nice outlet center too! They have a TON of stores like J Crew, Saks off Fifth, Francesca's, and more!

Places to Stay

1. AirBnb's We've Stayed in. .

Kitchen we were free to use.

Living area.

Our room.

We loved staying at Cal's place! She was very welcoming- but kept to herself during our stay too-which we loved! She was very helpful and accommodating. Easy check in and checkout and no key necessary, we just used the door code to get in and out. The place was super clean and quiet- it was a great location and close to everything we wanted to do!

You can book Cal's Charleston home here!

The front of the poolhouse.

Living area/kitchen.

Porch.

Rocking chairs.

This was a super fun stay! I was actually at this place for a Bachelorette party and it was SO fun! It has a ton of space and it just gorgeous inside. The pool is perfect and has a lot of chairs for lounging and hanging out. This family was super welcoming and sweet. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Perfect for parties or just a large family as there are a ton of beds and areas for sleeping!

Book the poolhouse here!

This hotel is located right in the heart of downtown and it is absolutely breathtaking. It can be kind of pricey depending on when you go (obviously holidays like the 4th of July and Labor Day are a lot more but that is the same for anywhere in Charleston). All in all, for the location and amenities, it's really not bad at all.

Now if you are like me, I like to stay right on the beach. I think it is just a lot easier to not have to get in the car and haul all your beach stuff with you every time you want to go down to the ocean. Tides is located right on Folly and they have TONS of rooms that overlook the ocean.

Wild Dunes is another great place to stay right on the beach! It's located on Isle of Palms. It is a resort, so there are always lots of things to do and it's a great place to stay for families!

Starbucks: What I Order & $$$ Saving Tips

STYLE DETAILS

TOP: J Crew (similar) SHORTS: Old Navy BAG: Tory Burch

STYLE DETAILS

SPORTS BRA: Calvin Klein SWEATSHIRT: Nike LEGGINGS: Target

Some of you may know, but I am OBSESSED with Starbucks. I usually go there almost everyday- it's bad, I know. I usually post them on my snapchat and so many people ask me what I get so I thought I would make a post about it! I've gone so many years, so frequently that I have picked up some very helpful tricks and unique drinks that are my go-to orders!

Orders:

#1. Iced Caramel Macchiato with 1/2 Raspberry
I'm 100% positive I am not the creator of this drink. One of my friends actually showed it to me when they still used the colored raspberry syrup (it looked way cooler back then) but it was waaaay to sweet with the vanilla and the raspberry syrup, so I usually opt for them to just do half and half. Ask for an Iced Caramel Macchiato with half vanilla half raspberry. (sometimes I add whip too)

#2. Iced Latte with 3 or 4 pumps of White Mocha (depending on the size)
I started getting this pretty recently but it has been one of my favorites lately. I love the taste of the White Mocha but I think the amount of syrup in it is way too much. It gives the drink a weird consistency and you can't taste the coffee. So if you like the White Mocha, but still want to taste your coffee, you can customize it with the amount of syrup! Plus its a little cheaper when you order it this way ;).  I ask for an Iced Latte with (2 pumps for tall, 3 pumps for grande, and 4 pumps for venti) of white mocha.
#3. Pink Drink
Obviously not the creator of this one either! I tried it back before it was an actual menu item and I fell in love! If you want a break from coffee but still want some caffeine, this one is great! It's really light and tastes like the beach {in my opinion}.

#4. Raspberry Cheesecake Frappuccino
Starbucks raspberry syrup is my favorite!! Order a cafe vanilla frappuccino with half vanilla half raspberry syrup.

#5. Cafe Vanilla Frappucino Painted with Caramel Drizzle
This one is really just for looks as well. A lot of people I know didn't know that you could get the vanilla bean frappucino with coffee in it. You just order it as Cafe Vanilla instead of the vanilla bean. I always ask them to "paint my cup" {one of my friends works at Starbucks and they call it that} with the caramel drizzle and it just makes a cool design on your cup!

#6. Iced or Hot Chai Tea Latte
I  absolutely love the chai tea! If you have never had it, you have to go try it! It tastes like Christmas in a cup. Also- if you have a sore throat, drinking this hot makes it feel SO much better.

#7. Iced Coffee with caramel and room for cream
Light and perfect for summer! (But who am I kidding I get iced coffee sometimes even if it's snowing 😂) I ask for iced coffee with caramel and leave room for cream!

Tips/Tricks

#1. Definitely sign up for the Starbucks rewards program. It's super easy and free- plus they give you a free drink for signing up! You can earn points which eventually get you free drinks as well! They also do promos (BOGOs, 1/2 off, & happy hours) every now and then, but you will only get the invite if you are a rewards member!

#2. Download the Starbucks app! You also get exclusive deals/happy hours when using the app! I also like to order ahead so I can just run in and grab my drink (especially if they're busy). It shows you a wait time and you can locate stores closest to you!

#3. If you are a fan of specialty drinks (i.e. White Mochas, Iced Mochas, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, etc.), you can order them as a latte(hot or iced) or iced coffee and ask for the pumps of whichever flavor you desire. If you get iced coffee, you have to add your own milk at the bar or you can ask your barista to do it for you. This is also a good way to save on calories/sweetness as well as a couple bucks! I find that some of these drinks are overpowering with the syrups so I like to tone it down a bit so I can taste my coffee. 😉

#4. Me and my blonde self did not even realize that you can get espresso decaf.....but you totally can! Which is literally life-changing with being pregnant. I gave up Starbucks for the first 4 months of pregnancy except for once or twice on my way to work when I was a literal walking zombie. Aaaaaaand then I figured out you can get any of my favorite drinks decaf!

XOXO, Olivia
